Motherboards have become cheaper and better in terms of longevity for capacitors that used to dry up with high operating temperatures are now a thing of the past. Using the latest in capacitor technology, most motherboard manufacturers are now using solid state caps or ones that are not filled with oil that eventually fail. Better power management features is also a new addition to their arsenal, allowing the motherboard in conjunction with the processor to decide how much power to use allowing optimal operation.
Capacitors used to signal their demise in a puff of acrid smoke you smell signifying the death of your computer’s mobo. Using solid state capacitors also has the benefit of less space, for solid state’s have smaller footprints thus better airflow.
