Extreme gamers use these parts of the motherboard to maximize its capabilities allowing it to go beyond the set safe limits for the specific board design. Most gaming motherboards have several user-selectable modes that allows the setting of several jumpers and dip switches (functions in the same manner) to attain a specific setting. The jumper block as it is called is used to wither short or open a jumper point (signified by gold pins). DIP switches are minuscule switches that are used to do the same.
Most motherboards have this documented in the user’s manual which makes it an important part of your PC use. From the bus speed to the enabling of certain functions (analog audio or digital), all these are accomplished by varying the combination of these jumpers and dip switches. Most boards come out of the box configured to their zero setting meaning they are set in auto-detect mode allowing the computer system to set all parameters of the board’s functions. The Bios set-up utility also allows you to customize certain functions that may be built-into the board allowing further customization. The use of these settings are not recommended for beginners for setting them wrong can cause failure thus rendering the board useless and wasted.
