August 1st, 2009 · Comments Off

The CNR, or Communication and Network Riser, is a type of slot that supports audio, modem, USB and Local Area Network cards. This slot is highly recommended for any user building a large number of computers because the cards costs a lot lesser than
the standard PCI or ISA cards.

4.ISA

Nowadays, ISA or Industry Standard Architecture slot is becoming outdated and can not be found on all motherboard anymore., It is advisable to purchase a new motherboard with no ISA slots and additional PCI slots unless you have old ISA cards that need to be used

5.PCI
The PCI slot or Peripheral Component Interconnec, allows for all types of cards. This is also the most widely and commonly used slot today.

MOTHERBOARD SLOT DEFINITIONS (1/2)

July 21st, 2009 · Comments Off

There are different types of slots in a motherboard.

Here are the definitions of the slots that are present in a PC motherboard:

1.AGP

The AGP, or Advanced Graphics Port, is used to contain video cards. It is highly recommended (and more practical) that only motherboards with AGP slots be considered to be bought.

2.AMR

The AMR, or Audio Modem Riser, is a type of slot that is utilized for Audio / Modem cards and is found on some motherboards. The Audi Modem Riser is not a very critical slot and has recently been replaced by the CNR (Communication and Network Riser).

Dell recalls several biz-PC motherboards

February 12th, 2009 · Comments Off

Dell has pointed to a supposed flaw with regard to the compatibility of their motherboards with the Nvidia graphics chip. The computer manufacturer has already contacted several of their vendors and distributors who have stocks of these products to return affected units to them.

Here’s an excerpt from the original article:

Dell Computer will start contacting some commercial PC owners about replacing their PC’s motherboard because of a flaw in the Nvidia graphics chip. A Dell representative characterized the action as a “proactive replacement” and “not a recall.” The problem has to do with a flaw in how the Nvidia graphics chip works on the motherboards of OptiPlex GX200 computers. The glitch could cause images to be displayed improperly.

However, an Nvdia spokesperson clarified that the problem isn’t exactly with thier graphics chip, and assured consumers that they are working closely with Dell to sort the whole thing out. This is not the first time Dell has experienced problems with their hardware – just a couple of months ago, Dell had to recall several of their laptops which had defective batteries.

For the sake of the consumers, we hope all of this gets sorted out soon and the new units be shipped out so everyone can be happy again.

Jumpers and Switches

January 10th, 2009 · Comments Off

jumpersExtreme gamers use these parts of the motherboard to maximize its capabilities allowing it to go beyond the set safe limits for the specific board design. Most gaming motherboards have several user-selectable modes that allows the setting of several jumpers and dip switches (functions in the same manner) to attain a specific setting. The jumper block as it is called is used to wither short or open a jumper point (signified by gold pins). DIP switches are minuscule switches that are used to do the same.

Intel G45
